Get ready to go on an emotional trip down memory lane as Cecilia Ahern recently announced that she has completed the sequel for her best-selling novel 'PS, I Love You'.
I doubt anyone who has read Cecelia Ahern's PS, I Love You was left with a dry eye by the end of it. If your experience reading the novel was anything like mine, you probably took an entire week to stop weeping over Holly and Gerry's emotional love story. Of course, we all had to reach for a fistful of tissues again when the eternally handsome Gerard Butler and the oh-so-gorgeous Hilary Swank brought the characters to life in the 2007 movie adaptation of the novel. Well, prepare to replenish your tissue stock (grab a tub of ice cream too, while you're at it), because Ahern is coming back with a follow up to the beloved romantic drama.

The author sent fans on an incredibly emotional nostalgic trip on March 11 when she took to social media to make an unexpected announcement. The 37-year-old revealed that she has written a sequel to her international bestseller P.S. I Love You and that fans would get to read it sooner than they imagine. Breaking the news across her Twitter and Instagram handles, the Irish author wrote: I have news! BIG NEWS! I’ve done it. I’ve written the sequel to PS I LOVE YOU and it’s titled POSTSCRIPT. It’s the P.S to my P.S of 15 years ago and writing it has been an emotional experience.

She continued, I don’t know how I’ve succeeded in keeping this a secret for so long but I’ve been bursting to share it. The author further revealed that the upcoming novel, titled Postscript, would be published in the UK and Ireland on September 19 this year. POSTSCRIPT will be published September 19th in the UK & Ireland. I hope you’ll welcome back Holly...and Gerry...and ugly cry through the story as much as I did, she wrote concluding the caption for a video she posted to her Instagram account to mark the memorable occasion.

According to a statement released by HarperCollins regarding their upcoming highly-anticipated release, "Postscript will revisit Holly Kennedy, seven years after her husband’s death, and Ahern described the novel as a 'deeply emotional project'. It will be published in hardback, trade paperback, eBook and audio by HarperCollins on 19th September 2019. Grand Central Publishing will publish in the United States." The last time we saw Holly, she was slowly overcoming her indescribable grief and opening herself up to life again one day at a time. However, it appears as though her life will be shaken up yet again by Gerry's loss in the sequel.

In the sequel to her and Gerry's tale, Holly will apparently be approached by a group calling themselves the PS, I Love You Club. Postscript's synopsis reveals that due to the club's entry into Holly's life, "her safe existence is turned on its head. Inspired by hearing about her late husband Gerry’s letters, the club wants Holly to help them with their own parting messages for their loved ones to discover after they’re gone. Holly is sure of one thing – no way is she being dragged back to the grief she has left behind. It’s taken seven years to reinvent herself, and she’s ready to move on with her life."

The synopsis concludes, "But Holly comes to realize that when you love someone, there’s always one more thing to say." Speaking about the new book Ahern said, "Postscript is the PS to my PS and while it is a sequel, it is also a story that stands alone about living a purposeful life in the face of illness, grief, and loss. I hope that new readers and PS, I Love You fans alike will embrace Holly’s new journey." Publishing director Lynne Drew was the first to acquire Ahern in 2003. Drew stated that watching Holly and Gerry's story create such an impact among reads has been an unforgettable experience.

According to Cosmopolitan, Ahern was 21-years-old when PS, I Love You was released and the novel propelled her instant superstardom. For the uninitiated, the book follows the story of married couple Holly and Gerry, who's picture-perfect lives are torn apart when Gerry dies from a brain tumor. Staggering to cope with her husband's demise, Holly is shocked and surprised to find that Gerry has left behind 10 letters for her to open. Each letter, signed off P.S I love you, contains messages from her deceased beau slowly guiding her out of her mourning and back towards a normal life.

Following the novel's success, Ahern has penned 15 further novels to date. Her books have sold 25 million copies internationally and are published in over 40 countries, in 30 languages. For those of us who never expected a sequel to PS, I Love You, Ahern's latest announcement is pretty much like Christmas came early this year. With Postscript on its way, we're all sure to do some serious damage to our emotional composure re-reading the novel in addition to re-watching the movie all the way till September.
